Conscious of Him

Have you ever bought a car and suddenly every time you’re on the highway you notice dozens of the same car that somehow you passed before and never noticed?  Your awareness has been heightened now that you are driving that make and model.

The Holy Spirit has an abiding presence in our lives (I John 2:27) but sometimes we just have to be awakened to it!  As you make it a focus to be led by His presence this year, you’ll find yourself so aware of His presence guiding you along.

The steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord.  Every step is important, and that means just putting one foot in front of the other to keep moving!  You’ve heard the old expression ‘you can’t steer a parked car’ and it’s hard to lead a ‘parked life’ that is paralyzed by fear of making a wrong move.

You’d be surprised how many highways you could take to get to Florida from Boston.  There are some that start the drive and take two to three weeks meandering down, getting off the main roads to visit some of the scenic places along the way, but clearly if you get on 95S and just stay on it, you will run into Florida in about 24 hours!

Even Abraham, our father of faith, made a few detours but God got him to his final destination.  Vicki Jamison used to tell us, “if your God is so small that He only has one way of getting you to His plan for you, your God is too small!”

This year, be conscious of His leading.  Let His presence be the TRANSPORTATION to your TRANSFORMATION!  Before the year is out, you will have made progress in the presence-led life.  If you should get knocked down, don’t get knocked out.  Just get back on your feet and yield again in prayer, asking God to lead you every step of the way.

Galatians 5:18The Message (MSG)

16-18 My counsel is this: Live freely, motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed the compulsions of selfishness. For there is a root of self-interest in us that is at odds with a free spirit, just as the free spirit is incompatible with selfishness. These two ways of life are antithetical, so that you cannot live at times one way and at times another way according to how you feel on any given day. Why don’t you choose to be led by the Spirit and so escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence?
